Treatments using Botulinum Toxin (the muscle relaxant also known as BOTOX ®) have increased in popularity over the last couple of decades.
People are often surprised by how versatile Botox® treatments can be. Dr Lina Kotecha at Glen Dental has been successfully using Botox to not only reduce her client’s wrinkles effectively but also for treating other beauty problems such as a gummy smile and now also using Botox® to help restore a more feminine jawline and create a slimmer face.
A concern amongst some women is a square jawline. Having a square jaw can create a wider looking lower face and a more masculine in appearance jawline. Dr Lina Kotecha uses Botox® to contour your jawline which gives you a more oval or V-shape face that is slimmer in profile.

The masseter muscle is one of your facial muscles which helps us to chew can sometimes become overworked. Just like working out any regular muscle, it can get larger, by restricting its movement using Botox ® it will reduce in size and help the face to appear slimmer.
Results can be seen after 1-2 weeks, you will notice the squareness of your jaw will reduce in size and form a more feminine shaped oval ‘slimmer’ appearance, or the appearance of weight loss. The image below shows before and after photographs of treatment to have a slim face with Botox
Not at all! Dr Lina Kotecha uses a numbing cream to reduce any possible discomfort. The face slimming treatment consists of a few simple injections using a small fine needle to the selected areas in the lower jaw.
There may be a little redness immediately following the treatment. Occasionally there can be a little bruising but it’s generally rare and hasn’t happened to any of our clients. We advise against any strenuous activity, smoking and drinking for 24 hours post treatment. It’s important to follow the personalised aftercare instructions given to you on the day of treatment.
The effects of Botox ® last around 3-4 months after the initial treatment. If treatments are then carried out routinely then often fewer sessions may only be required once every 6 months.
Other options to help your face look slimmer is to practice facial exercises, this can include proper tongue posture.
Whilst Botox can be used for facial slimming, it won’t affect the rest of your body so you may want to consider additional ways to lose weight if you feel this is necessary. Botox can also not help with excess facial fat, so is important to consider a healthy diet. It has been shown that green vegetables contain lots of fibre and nutrition like essential minerals and vitamins that can help your body to improve metabolism and subsequently burn fat.
