Polynucleotide skin rejuvenation and booster PhilArt Treatment

    by Dr. Lina Kotecha

PhilArt is a revolutionary, effective and natural looking facial aesthetic treatment. PhilArt is a new discovery in facial ageing by not just filling lines and wrinkles but by addressing skin laxity.

PhilArt improves patients’ skin quality, rejuvenating the skin and making it more radiant. The PhilArt range restores the skin’s elasticity and promotes hydration. The application range stretches from the face, scalp and neck to décolletage and hands. Can be used as a foundation therapy, it also creates better outcomes for follow-up aesthetic treatments.

PhilArt is an injectable gel consisting of long-chain polynucleotides (PN). Polynucleotides promote hydration of the skin and scavenge free radicals, thereby building an optimal environment for the growth of fibroblasts (cells that produce collagen). As a consequence, they promote the production of new collagen and elastic fibres, stimulating the body’s own cell regeneration. Based on natural ingredients, Polynucleitides are of natural origin and derived from European freshwater fish intended for human consumption, with full control over the production chain.

PhilArt is an injection treatment for more radiant and rejuvenated skin for young and mature patients, for use on the face, neck, décolletage and hands. PhilArt Eye is an injection treatment for the delicate area around the eyes to revive tired-looking eyes, for young and mature patients.

Thanks to the unique characteristics of PhilArt, skin conditions can be visibly improved after just 2 sessions, with a 4-week interval, Dr. Lina Kotecha at Glen Dental uses only bespoke injection points on each side of the face making it quick comfortable with minimal downtime. PhilArt can be used on a number of areas including the full face (including eye area), and neck. It is suitable for practically anyone, men and women, from 18 years’ old and with no upper age limit.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    • What are polynucleotides, and the benefits of these injectable treatments?

Polynucleotides are an injectable bio-stimulator. The stretchy molecules are made from fragments of fish which mirror human DNA.

The purpose of injecting the product is to stimulate our own cells to produce some of the things that we lose with ageing. It can change the expression of DNA. Polynucleotides boost collagen and elastin by up-regulating the fibroblast cells, as well as improving tissue regeneration and restoring skin tone and elasticity. It has an antioxidant and hydrating effect in addition to the bio-remodelling, therefore resulting in skin that looks and feels healthier.

    • Where are polynucleotides typically injected?

They can be used effectively under the eyes, for the face and neck, and even for the jawline and cheekbones. However, the most requested tends to be the eye area.

Indeed, polynucleotides for the under-eye area are changing the way cosmetic doctors work. There are a huge cohort of patients who are bothered by their under-eye area but would not be candidates for tear-trough filler, given the presence of under-eye bags or lack of elasticity of the tissues. Now, there are polynucleotides, which have been shown to really improve this area in my patients of all ages.

    • What do polynucleotides treatments involve?

The treatment requires two-to-three sessions depending on the patient, spaced out by roughly two weeks. Local anaesthetic cream is applied to the patient prior to injecting, and then the product is administered to the desired area of the face or neck. Most patients find the treatment tolerable, although the sensation is a little odd. It takes around five minutes per eye and after the treatment, an ice pack is placed on the under-eye and cheek areas to help minimise subsequent mild swelling (which is only noticed for a few hours post-treatment) and bruising (which is quite rare).

    • What are the risks associated with injectable polynucleotides?

As with any injectable treatment, there are risks to be aware of. The most common risks with injectable treatments such as polynucleotide treatments include bruising and swelling.

Another thing to note is that if you did have any issues with polynucleotides, the treatment cannot be reversed like dermal filler can as the product cannot be dissolved. But again, the risk is much lower as the product is not a gel.

    • Am I suitable for treatment?

The clinician will take a detailed medical history to ensure you have no conditions that might increase risk of unwanted side effects, consultation is also important to discuss your expectations and whether this treatment is able to meet them.

    • How to prepare for treatment?

Do read all the information provided to you and highlight anything you need to ask about. Check the clinic terms and conditions before attending.

Make-up-All make-up will need to be removed prior to treatment, so please come ‘fresh faced’ if possible.

Check medicines and supplements-Aspirin, Ibuprofen and a range of dietary supplements including St. John’s Wort, fish oils, Ginkgo Biloba, Vitamins C and E- may all contribute to bruising and are best avoided 24 hours before treatment.

Alcohol-Don’t drink alcohol the night before, it will increase your risk of bruising.

    • Polynucleotide skin rejuvenation and boosting treatment aftercare

      For 6 hours following treatment:

      To avoid infection

      • Do not reapply make-up.
      • Do not wear tight headgear such as bike or cycle helmets, or riding hats (These will not be clean and may increase risk of infection).
      • Keep your hands clean and avoid touching your face.
      • Avoid using your mobile phone against the treated area.
      • Do not let pets lick your face.
      • Do not pick or scratch the treated area.

For 24 hours to a week:

      • It is advisable to avoid aspirin and alcohol for 24 hours which can make any swelling or bruising worse.
      • Swelling may worsen in the first 24 hours, and then should settle within the first few days.
      • Cold packs can be helpful in reducing swelling. Be sure not to apply ice directly to the skin or for too long. This can cause a ‘freeze burn’.
      • Do not massage or manipulate the treated area.
      • Bruising may take a few days to appear, arnica or bromelain can be helpful in clearing bruising.
      • Tenderness should settle as swelling goes.
      • Avoid any further cosmetic procedures for 2 days after treatment.
      • Avoid extreme temperatures (hot or cold) for a minimum of 7 days after treatment (no saunas, steam rooms, sun beds or sun exposure)
      • Apply a SPF30+ sunscreen.
      • Avoid swimming for 48 hours.
      • Stay hydrated.
      • If you have any symptoms which concern you or get worse rather than better after 12 hours, please don’t hesitate to contact the clinic for further advice.
  • How do polynucleotides differ to injectable skin boosters, like Profhilo?

They are similar in terms of the effects but rather than just providing hydration like hyaluronic acid skin boosters [such as Profhilo, Teoxane Redensity 1, Belotero Revive, and Sunekos Performa], polynucleotides communicate with the cells to make them produce collagen and elastin.

Also, they work in all the areas many skin boosters can’t; like the eyes, lips, and forehead.  This was one of the key factors where polynucleotides have an advantage over Profhilo, e.g., Profhilo treatments can’t reach the under-eye area and dermal fillers come with risks.

  • Who are suitable candidates for polynucleotide treatments?

It’s an animal product, so it’s not suitable for vegetarians, vegans or those with fish allergies. It’s also not appropriate for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding – as with any injectable procedures. Otherwise, considering the natural element of this treatment, and the fact that you can inject it into any type of anatomy, means that almost anyone is a candidate.

  • When do you see the results of polynucleotides, and how long do they last?

You start to see the results quite quickly after the first session. However, the second session will really kickstart that remodelling process. The product continues to work for the first 12 weeks, so it continues to improve with time – however, you do get an improvement and lift early on after the first session.

On average, results of polynucleotide treatments last around six months before a patient would require one maintenance session.

  • What to bear in mind when scheduling treatment with polynucleotides?

Because bruising and swelling can occur and may take time to settle, it is not advisable to have treatment just before an important event. Although the majority of patients suffer only

minor side effects related to the injections, it is best to allow sufficient time for any possible side effects to resolve. For 12-24 hours you may have visible bumps in the skin. Pin prick marks/scabs may take 5 days to resolve. Bruising can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. Though make-up can be worn the next day. Your clinician will advise. Do not schedule treatment when you have other procedures or medical treatments planned, without first discussing with your clinician. This includes, but is not limited to; vaccinations, massage, facials, dental appointments and surgery.

It is best not to schedule treatment just before a holiday in the sun. Discuss with your clinician.

  • Does it hurt?

    Treatment can be uncomfortable.

A topical anaesthetic cream will be applied before treatment to numb the skin.

  • How much does Polynucleotide skin rejuvenation and boosting treatment cost?

Polynucleotide skin rejuvenation and boosting treatment costs £255 per session
